Parish Adult Choir Update

Choir begins Wednesday, September 8
The Parish Choir will meet for its first rehearsal of the year on Wednesday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m. in the Schola Cantorum (choir room) and will conclude at 8:30 p.m.  Please enter through the East Doors to Fr. Porter Hall.

Registration
Please register using the online Parish Choir Registration Form. Your place in this year's choir is secured by your registration. NOTE: Signing up on the parish Time & Talent Survey merely indicates interest.

Choir Schedules Online
No more hunting for old choir schedules! Find the Parish Choir Calendar online at our Music Ministry website.  More importantly, please transfer the dates of rehearsals and choir Masses to your personal calendar and do all you can to build your life around our choir schedule.  The priority of Sunday Mass is expected of all members of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, and the choir plays a special role in this source and summit of our common Christian life.

Voice for Life
All adult Parish Choir members are strongly encouraged to participate in an ongoing and continued growth as a choir singer and worshipping member of the Church.  The program we are using is called Voice for Life.  Learn more here, and register now!  We'll talk a little bit about this at our first rehearsal.  A special introductory session will also be offered at 6:30 p.m. before rehearsal.

Auditions for Student Instrumentalists

Student instrumentalists who have applied for the parish Collegium Musicum are invited to sign up for a 20-minute audition time to play for Dr. Vogt.

Audition times will be available approximately once a month.  The first audition date is Sunday, September 19, between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. To sign up, come to the Schola Cantorum (choir room on the basement level of the church, directly below the Narthex at the foot of the north stairway).  There you will find a sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board.

Please come prepared to play a piece that best represents your ability.  If you have a list of repertoire (solo pieces you have learned), please bring that as well.

Youth Choir Update

Choir begins on Sunday, September 12

The beginning of the new choir season is just around the corner.  We'll meet on Sunday, September 12, at 5:30 p.m. in the Schola Cantorum (choir room) and rehearse until 6:20 p.m.

Building on Last Year
We had a really good year last season, enjoying a record "critical mass" of committed talented young singers. Please share our Youth Choir webpage with your musical friends; now is the time to invite new (or inactive) members to join us!

New This Year
In addition to our Sunday evening rehearsals and monthly Sunday noon Masses, we're going to be leading our annual parish Christmas Carol Sing and participating in a special Lenten concert, helping to launch our Music Ministry's initiative of cultural outreach. We're the group to do it!

We'll also be participating in the liturgies of Holy Week with the adult Parish Choir and the St. Michael Choristers.

Schedule is Now Online
The Calendar of Youth Choir rehearsals, Masses and special events is now online on the Music Ministry website. Bookmark the link, and spend some time exploring the full scope of our music ministry so that you can be a true musical ambassador for Christ in our parish!

SongBirds Update

Our SongBirds Chorister Training Program begins next Tuesday!

Getting There from the Parish School
Singers from the Parish School will be dismissed from class in time to meet Dr. Vogt on the front steps of the church at 3:30 p.m.  Dr. Vogt will show them how to get to Fr. Porter Hall so that they can find their way there on subsequent days, check-in with a parent volunteer, find their rehearsal room and have a simple snack.

Children in SongBirds 1-A will rehearse from 3:30-3:50 p.m.  They will be dismissed at the East door and may take a simple snack with them, or if they are waiting for a sibling in SongBirds 2 may remain in Fr. Porter Hall until 4:10 p.m.

Children in SongBirds 2 will rehearse from 3:50-4:10 p.m.  Unless notified in writing by parent/guardian, these children are expected to report to Fr. Porter Hall immediately after school for a snack and supervised study time until their rehearsal begins at 3:50 p.m.  They will be dismissed at the East door.

Getting There from other Schools
Singers from other schools in the parish may enter through the East door to Fr. Porter Hall anytime on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3:30 p.m. and the beginning of the SongBirds 1-B rehearsal at 4:10 p.m.  Students will be dismissed on these days at the East doors at 4:30 p.m.

On Wednesdays, children in SongBirds 1-B rehearse from 5:40-6:00 p.m.  Entrance and dismissal at the East door.

Attendance
Conflicts are bound to arise from time to time, however, and the only requirement in this regard is accountability in order to keep your child and all of the other children safe.  If and whenever a conflict arises, please communicate this via the online Anticipated Absence form.

Three voice/choir sessions a week is a rare opportunity from which your child will greatly benefit.  The parish is making an extraordinary investment in your child's formation to match your investment of time and commitment.  In order to help you to plan, we have published the SongBirds Calendar for the entire year.

Registration
We are still accepting registrations for the SongBirds Chorister Training Program.  For more information, click here.  For registration, click here.

Endings and New Beginnings

Thank you to all our child, youth and adult choir members for a wonderful year of learning and service.  Above and beyond our growth together in choir has been our learning to pray together in our beautiful new church.  It has indeed been a good year!

Invite you to do your own reflection on your experience this year, and if you feel so moved, share your thoughts with me through this Appreciate Inquiry tool.

Special thanks to those who have helped and led "behind the scenes:" Abby Adamson, Jeanette Allen, Dana Arth, Karen Dehais, Al Hapke, Ricki Harned, David Lancaster, Sarah McEnerney, Erin Ronan, Anita Roudebush, Georgianne Skid, Melissa Vandervoort...and so many parents, choir members, cantors, and instrumentalists who give so much in time and talent to our ministry of music.

Finally, I hope you will give some prayer and thought to how you will participate in music ministry during the coming year.  You'll find a lot of information about new and continuing opportunities for parishioners of all ages.  Summer is when most of the planning gets done for the coming year, so your registering as early as possible really helps!

Blessings for the summer days ahead,

Kevin
